MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Gwen Kirkpatrick’s new book, DIARY OF A DECADE - Ten Adventurous Years in the Middle East, ($20.99, paperback, 9781498453288; $31.99, hardcover, 9781498453271; $9.99, e-book, 9781498453295) the author provides the reader with a glimpse of her life as an American living in a culture most have not experienced, always depending on God for protection. She provides insight into daily living in a third world country in the 70s and 80s – living in six Middle Eastern countries, evacuating from Iran, travel, relationships, struggles and opportunities – to learn about other cultures and interacting with people from many different places. The book chronicles an exciting journey as her family lived in Abu Dhabi, Iran, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Dubai and traveled broadly in Syria, Turkey and Oman – adapting to each new location and situation. Her story contrasts the difference between then and now – considering the political situation in these countries today – and the vast modernization of the same countries. The author shares her fears, frustrations, anticipations and joys, as if she were talking to you or writing a letter. It’s a remarkable true story for all to read and enjoy.

I want my grandsons, as well as anyone interested, to have an opportunity to share the experiences, travel and unusual life lived by their father and grandparents during a different time in countries they are hearing about in the news today,” states the author. “I also want them to realize that in every situation we were constantly under the protection of God.”

Gwen Kirkpatrick was born in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She taught school for thirty-three years while following her husband around the world.
