MAITLAND, FL—Micaiah J. Young’s new
book Made in His Image, But His Shadow is all I’ve Seen ($15.49, paperback, 9781498488136; $7.99, eBook, 9781498488143) shares that when an
individual does not know where he or she comes from, the quest for identity is
one that can last for a lifetime. Identity is gained through association with
parents. Your father gives you his name and you become a carrier of his genes
and legacy. When that relationship does not exist, there is a major void that
must be addressed and can only be filled by God himself. The point of this book
is acknowledging the impact of fatherlessness along with embracing the reality
that it is possible to recover and be a whole person living out your purpose.
Young says, “Many individuals can relate to
having had an absentee father, so this book will automatically speak to the masses.
My story, however, is unique in that the occurrences almost seem to be movie
script. The only difference is that this is a real life drama. I met my father
for the first time at 35 years old, which was highly unlikely because prior to
my birth he returned to Nigeria and never came back to the U.S. to live or to
meet me. I searched for him not knowing what he looked like or whether he was
alive. Miraculously, I found him.”
This is Micaiah J. Young’s story. He has
lived it every day of his life and he understands what it is to experience
several challenges and much pain because he was abandoned by his father. As a
pastor and chaplain, he counsels people regularly who are suffering just as he
was. Young’s degrees in Psychology and Divinity help to shape his perspective
and widen his understanding of the causes and effects of fatherlessness.
Ultimately, he is a survivor. He has forgiven his father and God has healed
him. Therefore, he is willing to share his story to heal someone else.
