MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Karen R.
Hobbs’s new book, Unlocking My Soul to Hope Again, ($12.49, paperback, 9781498491518; $5.99, e-book, 9781498491525) readers will find the
author’s remarkable story of victory over her childhood sexual abuse. Tormented
for over five years by a Bible teacher in her Christian school, Hobbs kept her
painful secret. However, through her internal struggle she found God’s amazing
love, which gave her the courage to bring her abuser to justice decades later.
“Very few women are able to get to the
place where they can even voice that they are victims of sexual abuse, much
less successfully prosecute their abuser thirty years later,” states the
author. “My book speaks of the abuse that occurred in a Protestant organization
and the stigma and legalism that continues to impede victims of these
institutions from coming forward and telling their stories for fear of
condemnation and shaming. This is a story where the victim fights against the
traditions of the institution and God is glorified. My hope is that this book
provides both survivors and those who support and work with them an
understanding of the inner complexities that plague victims of sexual trauma
everyday.”
Karen
R. Hobbs has over twenty years experience working in the trauma field and has
spent the last thirteen years working as a Licensed Professional Counselor in
private practice. She is also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and this
autobiography of her journey towards healing is her debut book.
