Author Saundra L. Words shares her poignant memoir in He Waited for Me ($9.99, paperback, 9781662804298; $4.99, e-book, 9781662804304).
Words was a very rebellious teenager, constantly hiding her drinking, drugs and other misbehavior from her church-going mother. She thought her parents were strict, but she soon learned that life was a much more difficult taskmaster. Realizing the destructive direction her life was taking, she struggled to break free and God sent her help from a most unexpected source.
“It is my responsibility to tell the world that Jesus is willing -- not being forced to, but he is willing -- to commune with you, to love you like no one else ever has and call you his child,” said Words.
Saundra Lee Words discovered her gift of writing after a reading assignment that her sixth grade teacher gave the class. Even without any formal training, in 1989 she wrote and co-directed her first play, “Christmas With Cisely”, which was staged at the Black Box Theatre in St. Joseph, MO. She continues to write Gospel plays.
