Author Ronald L. McCartney combines religion and science to present a much-needed perspective on life and death in Beyond Doubt ($17.99, paperback, 9781662856464; $7.99, e-book, 9781662856471).
When McCartney was four years old, he sadly witnessed the tragic death of a beloved puppy that was run over by a truck. As one can expect, this instigated religious questions about life and death. Although a young child, McCartney could not accept the explanation he was given for the death of his beloved puppy and the loss of his great-grandmother. This book explores the topic through the author’s findings from his life-long search of evidentiary science and religion, the fusion of which eventually provided the satisfying answer he sought after.
When asked what inspired the author to write this book, McCartney said, “Witnessing the death of a beloved puppy and great grandmother at four years of age.”
McCartney’s interest in science and religion began at a young age. The mystique of visits to the family doctor awakened the lore of science. His impressive science education includes a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Chemistry, a Master of Science (MS) in Biochemistry and an M.D. degree. McCartney completed a four-year residency in therapeutic and diagnostic radiology followed by several years of general medical practice. His radiology career spanned several decades and included academic, group and solo practice positions. With his education in science, medicine and religion, he shares his belief of fundamental harmony between true science and true religion as advocated by William Paley and Thomas Aquinas. McCartney is a father to five children, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Since 2004, he and his wife, Donna, have lived in Florida. McCartney, a private pilot with 700 hours of flying time, enjoys kids, dogs, golf and water sports.
