Author Robin Noel Talbot presents a compelling fictional story with the relatable topic of grief in My Father and Me ($14.99, paperback, 9781662876530; $26.99, hardcover, 9781662876547; $5.99, e-book, 9781662876554).
Talbot’s fictional story approaches a difficult subject with thoughtfulness as she takes readers on the journey of a son as he grows, learns and struggles with his father’s illness. Upon his father’s death, the son is comforted with the knowledge that even after experiencing such a monumental loss, the father-son bond will remain, and hope and love will endure. It’s a relatable story of the unique bond shared by fathers and sons, portraying characters that through circumstances beyond their control, still find a way to gain courage, trust and wonder. This book was written to provide comfort to anyone faced with the loss of a loved one or struggling to understand loss.
When asked what inspired the author to write this book, Talbot said, “When our sons were two months and four years old, my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. During the next two years, I watched as the boys looked to their father and their father to them for encouragement and love. They taught each other about faith and wonder. Their father guided them to ‘reach for the sky’ even when his own star was falling. As the boys grew, we held on to that sense of wonder. Even in tough times, the circular path of life kept us growing and moving, discovering and wondering. It's amazing that even after a special loss, that of a father, the love, nostalgia, and faith lives on in each son.”
Robin Noel Talbot grew up near Philadelphia, moved to Maryland for college, met and married Joe, a charming “southerner”. Already parents to Patrick, while home on maternity leave with her second son, Sean, was when her husband was diagnosed with cancer. Joe succumbed to the disease but left a legacy of love. Talbot lives in Annapolis, Maryland. Her two sons are now incredible young men on their own circular paths of wonder and adventure. Talbot loves dogs, horseback riding, gardening and reading. Her sense of wonder and adventure spark an eternal optimism no matter the season or path she takes. She never stops exploring—whether in a different country, museum, trail or in her own backyard—she believes there’s always something to discover.
